Workpop was founded in 2014 by Chris Ovitz and Reed Shaffner in Santa Monica to change how restaurants, hotels and shops hire. That world ran on paper applications and Craigslist while software companies had spent a decade building careful hiring processes for themselves. The premise was that a line cook deserves the same.
Employers posted for free, wrote to candidates directly, set up interviews, screened by video, and read work histories next to references from managers already on the network. The Peninsula Hotels, Sweetgreen and Jersey Mike’s were customers.
Much of the software underneath it is public, at Meteor tooling.
Cornerstone OnDemand bought the company in September 2018. The product carried on as Cornerstone Frontline.
