In 2008, teenagers often obtained phone data through T-Zones, a $5.99 monthly T-Mobile plan that routed connections through a proxy that permitted web traffic and little else. wmAim was an AIM client for Windows Mobile 5 and 6, written in C# and VB.NET to operate through the proxy and released under the GPL. It reached the eighty-fourth percentile of activity on SourceForge.
