Ruffle keeps Flash content playable now that the plugin is gone. This gives the Flash Text Engine, the text system that magazine and newspaper interactives were set in, a real implementation.

Ruffle is an emulator, written in Rust, that keeps Flash content playable now that the plugin is gone, and it handles games and animation well. Flash had two text systems, and Ruffle implemented the older one while treating the newer Flash Text Engine as the same thing: this work gives the newer system its own identity inside Ruffle along with the rest of its layout framework, so type set with real typographic control renders as authored, including the interactives the New York Times still hosts.
